An Intensive Care Unit was declared open at the Thambbutegama Base Hospital on June 20th 2020. The new Unit is part of the Health System Enhancement Project (HSEP) which is funded by the Asian Development Bank.
The Unit was declared open by the Governor of the North Central Province, Mr. Maheepala Herath.
A total of Rs. 90 million has been spent to set up the Unit.
Amongst those who attended the opening ceremony were Secretary Health, North Central Province Mr. K.P. Siribaddana, Provincial Health Service Director- North Central Province Dr. Palitha Bandara and Deputy Project Director HSEP Dr. Sisira Liyanage.
