Sri Lanka’s largest PCR testing laboratory was declared open on 24th June 2020 at the Colombo East Base Hospital, Mulleriyawa by the Honorable Minister of Health and Medical Services Mrs. Pavithra Wanniarachchi.
This new laboratory has a capacity to perform 500 tests within 12-hour period and becomes the only laboratory that can handle the highest number of tests in a given time period. Community samples collected by mobile units are planned to be tested in this laboratory.
This will add to the list of PCR laboratories of the country operating in Medical Research Institute (MRI) National institution of Infections Disease Hospital (NIID), Teaching Hospital Karapitiya, Anuradhapura and Kandy.
