Success Story of PMCU Pundaluoya

Primary Medical Care Unit, Pundaluoya is a health institution situated in a rural area in Nuwaraeliya District, within the Kothmale Divisional Secretariat.  The PMCU caters to an approximately 20,000 population of the area, out of which majority is plantation sector.

The facility provides OPD Consultation, Routine Clinics, Emergency Care Services. The average hospital attendance is 90 patients per day. The PMCI had limited space to accommodate OPD and clinic patients. To enhance the services of the hospital, Heath System Enhancement Project financed by ADB has developed the infrastructure creating patient friendly environment with large waiting area, sanitary facilities with disable access and improved facilities for the use of hospital staff.

With this development and the dedication of hospital staff, quality of the services provided by the institution has improved and bypassing of the patients has minimized. Thereby, overcrowding of DH Nuwaraeliya, DH Kothmale and DH North Medakubura will be reduced.

The refurbishment has commenced on the 20.08.2020 and completed on 17.02.2021 and handed over to the Provincial Health Department for the use of people in the area. The project cost was LKR 22.27 Mn.
